Cro-Tatting

Known as Crochet Tatting, Tatting Crochet or short Cro-tat.
Cro-tat combines crochet and needle tatting. In its most basic form the rings are tatted and the arches are crocheted.
The cro-tatting tool is a hook which has a long straight shank and a smaller head than regular hooks.

Cro-tatting hook
Sizes of hooks I’ve found :
  • 1mm – for threads size 10 and 15
  • 1.5mm – for threads size 5
  •  2mm – for thin yarns like baby yarns
(sizes of threads I recommend you above are for Lizbeth and Anchor Aida brand and it's based on my opinion)

If you would like to work with thicker thread or yarn, you can either use a wooden or a bamboo hook. More about that you can find here: http://www.enfys.me.uk/english/crotat/crotat-hook-tutorial.htm

My remark

Advantages:
  •  easier to learn than shuttle tatting
  •  rings come out thicker because of double thread inside
  •  finished project is tighter than needle tatting
  •  if you make a mistake – easy to unravel
  •  great opportunity to learn for crocheters because give endless possibilities for incorporating cro-tatting into their crochet projects
Disadvantages:
  •  as a tatting lace some of you may not like the appearance of the crochet chain
  •  sometimes it’s very hard to pass hook through all the stiches on the crochet hook if stiches to tight (some of you may find it tricky to do it)
  •  the special hook used must match the thickness of the thread chosen for the project
  • ·         not so tight and fine like shuttle tatting
